Stamford is a superb community to call home!
It was established in 1641 by 28 men of the Wethersfield Plantation who created the new settlement and borrowed the name from a city in Lincolnshire, England. After the land was surveyed and measured for homes and wood lots a centrally located common was established, as was the practice with all New England towns. This area was located at the intersection of what would later become Boston Post Road, at the end of a trail that led from the harbor into the settlement. Later known as Atlantic Square, it has always been at the center of Stamford town life.
